An Interesting article. Suppose one started with a guaranteed basic income. A check cut to all Americans. Not needs tested so no need for extensive bureaucracy to administrate it. Then add a true flat tax on every dime that touches a persons hand, no exceptions for investments or corporations. Eliminate all loopholes. That too would result in a drastic reduction in bureaucracy. Institute a single-payer medical system for everyone which, once again would *drastically* simplify the current beauracratic insurance nightmare that is health care delivery. Finally, fund universal education to allow all people to use their new security productively to invent and explore. It would reach true conservative goals of simplifying government and getting it out of peoples live, while also reaching liberal goals of freeing the people from the threat of economic or medical ruin. Freed of the need to worry about making a basic income, and properly educated, people would be free to chase big ideas and big dreams. Capitalism would still encourage people to create, but only by the productive carrot, not the stick, which science has *proven* is counter-productive to modern creative work.
