An Olyphant man led Carbondale Police on a three-mile high-speed chase, tried to break through a road blockade, and was unfazed by multiple taser hits before being put in hand cuffs early Wednesday. Police reported 32-year-old Edward Hazelton of Olyphant sped away when they attempted to pull him over for hitting guardrails on Business Route 6 near Archbald. When police spotted him, Hazelton sped through the streets of Carbondale at 80 mph. Police formed a barricade around his car, but Hazelton accelerated toward the two officers standing in front of his car. The officers got out of the way, and Hazelton hit their SUV. The officers then tasered Hazelton on his back and shoulders to no avail. A struggle broke out, and police were able to put Hazelton in handcuffs. Police arrested Hazelton on multiple charges including aggravated assault, Hazelton has a preliminary hearing Tuesday, and is in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.
