An Open Letter to Women Who Say Mean Things About Their Bodies Please stop insulting little, insignificant things about your appearance. Even if you would like to lose a bit of fat, that doesnt mean you should be so mean to yourself. Would you call your best friend a fat cow? Of course not. That would be a cruel thing to do. Using derogatory terms to describe your body isnt any different. Be kind to yourself. Heres a fun reflection exercise that might help if you struggle with this. Think about the traits you would desire in a partner or significant other you choose to share your life with. Heres my result of that exercise. I would like to be with... A person who accepts me, trusts me, and understands me (or at least tries to). A person who challenges me to grow, helps me heal when I feel broken, and calls me out for the bullshit stories I tell myself about why I cant do the things I need and want to do. A person whose presence I enjoy so much that I could stay up talking (and/or being naughty) beyond the midnight hour, even though I have to wake up before the sun comes up. A person who makes me feel like I can be 100% authentic, genuine, or REAL, without fear of judgement. Take off the mask and stop the performance, because no secret is so bad that they will run away in fright. The point? There is not one iota of detail about this mythical creatures appearance in that text. Perform this writing exercise for yourself. Observe that mental attributes trump physical characteristics. And for the love of everything that is holy, stop being so hard on yourself. You probably dont hear it often enough, but you are beautiful. Dont let anyone tell you otherwise.
