An Unconventional Canvas: The Quilts of Yvonne Wells is one of three sections in the current exhibition, From Heart to Hand. Wells takes inspiration from subjects and events that resonate with her: the Holy Bible, the Civil Rights Movement, and other events from Alabama History, as well as elements of popular culture, often find their way into her work. Hear directly from the artist, particularly on her works regarding Civil Rights, at the upcoming 28th Annual Julia Norton Babson Lecture, 10/9. Joining Wells is Dr. Nell Painter, a leading historian of the United States and the Edwards Professor Emerita of American History at Princeton University.
