An Update from the Oso Mudslide: From the Rev. Janet Loyd from Church of the Transfiguration in Darrington. Some of our biggest issues are the logistics of getting to work or medical appointments, re-supplying special need items, keeping a business going without highway 530 traffic. Many of our issues are being addressed through Episcopal Relief and Development. Ive been in touch every day, and their response has been above and beyond wonderful. But some needs I can address better locally, with money from our Transfiguration Discretionary Fund. So far weve helped pay a familys bills, provided gas to get to cancer treatments, purchased gift cards to replace clothing and household goods, supported community-wide meals after funerals, supported the local candle shop in providing free memorial and tranquility candles. Weve donated toward the specialized food needs of people, pets, and livestock, and provided the transportation to get those things to Darrington. These kinds of needs might not be met by larger agencies, or might be resisted out of pride from other sources. But meeting these needs on a personal level allows us as a church to respect the dignity and relieve the suffering of Gods people in a very special way. If you would like to support this ministry, you may as congregations or individuals make contributions through the diocese by check or by donating online at bit.ly/1mEuWQu
