An Update on Shandy! Some of you may have read our recent posts about a little cat called Shandy. She had severe cataracts in both her eyes which meant her vision was so poor she could hardly see. Shandy was born with this condition which has got worse as she got older. Shandy required very complicated and expensive surgery to correct this problem and allow her to have a normal pain free life. She was only 8 months old when the Shelter paid for her eye operations to allow her to see for the first time. She is now doing very well in her foster home and has recovered very quickly after such complicated surgery that was carried out at pride vets in Derby. She is now able to see long distances but she is not able to focus on objects close up. As you can see from the pictures of her now she is a very content cat and enjoying being able to see the world around her. The Operations to correct the cataracts on Shandys eyes and all the after care cost the Shelter over £3000 and we have raised £600 towards this cost so far which is a great start. We would like to thank everyone who has made a donation to help Shandy, the surgery has truly changed her life forever. If you are able to make a donation to help pay for Shandys vet fees you can make a donation on the Shelter website at thesheffieldcatsshelter.org/index.php by clicking on the paypal and Golden giving buttons. You can also donate by texting GUBC25 followed by the amount to 70070. There is a minimum donation of £1 and a maximum of £10. Shandy is still receiving treatment for her eyes and finishes her eye drops in two weeks time when she will be looking for a loving new home. Shandy requires one more check up at Pride vets in 5 weeks time to make sure everything has healed perfectly. Shandy is a very affectionate cat who has lots of energy and loves to play. She would be better suited to a home on her own with no other cats as she can be a bit of a torment and too playful for the other cats she has mixed with. She gets easily carried away when playing and can sometimes be a bit too rough so would not be suitable in a home with young children. Shandys ideal home would be with someone who has lots of time and attention to give her, she has been through a great deal for such a young cat and deserves her happy ending!
