An acquaintance of mine has expressed his concern over the new meme that has been so rampantly popular among our community. As one of the main contributors to this meme, here is my explanation or response to those who are concerned that the meme will have negative consequences or impacts on the lives of those involved. If you are a photographer of the original picture or someone who owns the copyright of the photo, please see the paragraph 1. If you are the center of the meme who we supposedly know as Ivy Myint Htoo or her legal representative(s) or her family members, please go to the second paragraph. 1. We, the Burmese Uncensored Memes i (abbreviated as BUMi) is an online community of individuals centered on the contents of humor or amusement, mostly what the newly Internet products called “meme”, which light up our days or inspire us. Please refer to netforbeginners.about/od/weirdwebculture/f/What-Is-an-Internet-Meme.htm for the definition of meme. You may also want to look at such online addresses as 9gag and reddit/r/AdviceAnimals/ for more instances. Please not that, either as an online community or individuals, we do not claim the copyrights of the photo or we do not use the photo for commercial purposes in any way. Apparently, the original photographer has posted the photo on the public group, we assume that he allows the unlimited access of his work to the public. However, if it is deemed a breach of copyright law by existing laws and regulations, we are happy to cooperate with the owner or anyone assigned by him or her and take the necessary actions promptly in order to accommodate the needs of the copyright holder. 2. The admin team firmly believes in the right to privacy of every human. We have a friendly attitude towards the pivotal figure of this meme, who we happen to know as Ivy Myint Htoo or her legal representative(s) or someone who is associated with her. Therefore, would like to assist immediately, provided that Ivy Myint Htoo finds the use of her photo uncomfortable, harassed, concerned or bullied in a way that would affect her social, academic or career life. While any person in the photo is not qualified to hold the copyright of the photo (since it was taken by a photographer in a public event), we consider and empathize the feelings of other fellow human beings and will take measures to assuage the consequences received from the other party should there is a complaint from Ivy Myint Htoo or her representatives. However, we hope that you have noticed the general optimism associated with the meme. Most of the contents do not express a disrespectful or malicious act against Ivy Myint Htoo, instead, applaud the natural beauty or elegance of the aforementioned person captured by a photographer by accident. Therefore, we expect that you would consider the contents and ideas of the meme thoroughly and appropriately accept the use of your image in a non-discriminatory, non-chauvinistic and unprejudiced way. However, as mentioned above, if you still insists, we shall abide your wish to take down the memes including the contents, photos and other materials applicable to them within a certain appropriate time period.
