An addendum to a recent popular post on my FB wall: Meanwhile over at News of St. John, the last two articles have been devoted to instructions on how Statesiders can become Absentee Villa owners on St. John. We really need some sort of media watchdog. Do not interpret my interest in the disturbing nature of STJ media as a personal attack on the people who run these sorts of sites (there are now more than a few; this one is simply the most professionally done) or a personal attack on the people who are being featured in the articles. The fact that we have these villa/restaurant advertisement sites masquerading as news sources is the result of a local void that has resulted from some very complex issues. The void is not the fault of the people who fill it, but there is nothing wrong with asking questions about the choices they make. Media representation is a real issue. It should not be ignored.
