An all electric car has little engine maintenance that needs to be done, though some electric motor inspections. That said there are plenty of other things that go wrong with cars that they will need to keep dealers around. CV joints, Tie rod ends, battery replacements/upgrades, power window movements, wiper blades, tires, and dozens others. Though Oil changes make up a lot of what dealers do it is hard to imagine that that is what they make the most money from. So rather than figure out a way to accept the change they are delaying the inevitable and thus retarding their members from actually being able to adapt to the changes. This is not the first time that direct sale were offered. Sears in the 50s had a car you could mail order and I think even before that you could order a model T or something.
