An all-star ensemble headline Inherent Vice. My review. Paul Thomas Anderson, director of such films as Boogie Nights, Punch Drunk Love, and Magnolia translates Thomas Pynchons novel for the big screen. Joaquin Phoenix is a stoner private eye who is tasked with a couple of cases that are all related. This is a whacked-out two and a half hours of crazy talk, pot-smoking, sometimes uncomprehendible narration, goofy nonsense, and laugh-out-loud insanity. In fact Im not even sure I fully figured out what was going on. What I do know is this may be one of those films where you loved it or hate it. Josh Brolin, Katherine Waterston, Owen Wilson, Benicio Del Toro, Reese Witherspoon,Jena Malone, Michael Kenneth Williams, Eric Roberts, and Maritn Short all seem to be having a good time with the insanity. My Rating: A-.
