An amazing chat over coffee this morning with a dear friend of mine. A doctor, he went to Sydney University from 1962 to 1967. And what a period it was! Ex-Greens leader Bob Brown was in his year at medicine. He says Brown wasnt that political but always wore a suit, looked very proper and was a skilled card shark. Justice Michael Kirby was at the time running the SRC and Laurie Oakes was working on the student magazine Honi Soit. Bob Ellis (just a thin weedy guy) was involved in the magazine too. My friend was a mate of Charles Perkins at Uni. Other students there at the time included Clive James and Germaine Greer. What an era!
