An anonymous message I received last night after everything that happened in Talk Tillsonburg to the person who wrote this to me Thankyou for your words and support it is very much heartfelt and appreciated xo A True Story… Do you know that lady who walks around Tillsonburg every day and picks up garbage? You see her on simcoe street hill, you see her walking down concession, or near parks, or the lake? Do you know the lady who gets out of bed each and every morning and decides to beautify our town and furthermore… our planet? Let me ask you this… if you do know who I am talking about, do you know her name? Each morning, she gets up and picks a route and just cleans. She doesn’t get paid for this job. She doesn’t get an award. Her name has never been in the paper, and yet she cleans. In fact, a few years ago, this woman was almost injured by a driver who didn’t see her. Shortly afterwards, she approached town council with a small request… would they let her have a reflective vest? (you know… the kind all construction workers wear to make drivers aware) Here is what transpired next… Council, (afraid of negative feedback from the community) had to check with the policy. They then had to review with a law firm. Two meetings and many tax payer dollars later… It was decided that by issuing or gifting her a vest, they were endorsing her activities, and should she ever be injured, the town would be liable for a lawsuit. “Vest Denied” Do you know what happened next? She woke up the next morning, and she walked along Simcoe street and she picked up garbage. She didn’t do it for the money, she didn’t do it for the vest, she did it for the love of the town and for her own self satisfaction. Probably one of the most upsetting days of my life, was when I intercepted a letter to the editor, and a social media complaint as well, bad mouthing this woman for not sticking to a regular route, and not getting ALL of the trash she passed by on her route that day. Someone actually complained that she was doing a half ass job! And do you know what happened next? She woke up the next day and she picked up the trash along concession street. She probably doesn’t know what facebook is. She probably doesn’t know about the letter to the editor. But I’ll bet you one thing is true… The person doing the complaining probably doesn’t sleep well at night, probably isn’t climbing the corporate latter, probably misses out on cards on holidays, and very probably writes letters or posts on social media, as they have no real friends to voice their opinion to. But the silent woman who walks the town and continues to do good… I’ll bet she sleeps like a baby, and I’ll bet there’s a special place in heaven for her. KathieLyn Ryan… You attend social functions, you attend fundraisers, you attend to people. In some cases, it has cost you the price of a ticket or a meal, and yet you put yourself out there. I have seen you cope with untimely deaths, I have seen you cope with negativity, and I have seen you persevere. I am sorry that your fan base has taken an unexpected toll. I am sorry that your VERY POPULAR facebook page representing over 13.5% of Tillsonburg and statistically over 41% of Tillsonburgers who use social media has been tainted by the negative. Especially those who out right look for a fight. I can’t imagine the hours you put into this page over the past few years, but I can tell you this… You provide a service to this town, and for that, I believe you are recognized, and for that I believe you should sleep well at night, and for that… much like the woman in the story above… I believe theres a special place in heaven for people just like you.
