An anonymous parent writes: I desperately need information on homeschooling in and resources ( co-ops, social opportunities in the Chicagoland area, curriculum suggestions.) My oldest daughter has always had behavior problems at school ( needing reminders and/or redirection during tasks and some social delays. Were exploring the possibility of ADHD.) Homeschooling has always been on the back of my and my husbands minds but we thought we would wait and see how our school districts gifted magnet program would work out. The program starts at third grade so she transferred there this year. We thought being around other highly gifted kids at her level would greatly help her. Sadly, the competitive nature of most of the students, inability to find a close friend in the very small class and bullying from a couple of classmates has caused a lot of anxiety and anger in her. We have started seeing argumentative behavior even at home. My husband and I have decided that keeping her in the school system is causing a lot of harm with very little benefits. Please, please help us start our homeschooling journey! These are our biggest concerns right now: 1. What do we need to do to pull her out of school? ( Were in Illinois.) 2. How difficult is it to homeschool kids who are three years apart and with a toddler in the mix? 3. Im worried about the socialization part ( I know this is a very annoying question for homeschooling families but I honestly do not know how to address this part of their lives. Concrete examples in Illinois (suburbs) would greatly help. Thank you!
