An anonymous parent writes: Our kid was advanced 2 years halfway into Year 2 previously and advanced again another 2 years recently in Nov. Therefore, despite just having turned 7 last Nov, hed be taking the Y6 Checkpoint exam this Apr. Though he is advanced in Math having scored highly on their test&having won numerous awards at mental arithmetic competitions, we are a bit concerned about his written English&grammar gap due to the sudden jumps. His Math is not an issue as tested when he also scored distinction in the ICAS exam at the higher lever that he completed in 10 min last year. It is not too bad but being typical Asian parents&also the standard he sets upon himself, we are wondering whether wed want him to maybe spend another year at Y6 first before taking the checkpoint so that he excels - he is however not keen to do that. Q1: Should we just let him continue with the Y6 checkpoint and let the results be? Q2: The international schools in this country are so commercialized with consistent stands&teachers, plus they do not have proper guidance for gifted kids. Would you have any suggestions of where (country&location) we could place him mayb with some aid to settle there? My husband&I are both professionals with basic degree&Masters from US&Australia but we just followed our scholarships&friends to select locations then. We were wondering if we can find him a good school overseas while still managing our finance&career. We r just really worried as he cannot really click to find friends in school¬ many schools here can handle or is willing to accommodate him.
