An anti-trinitarian asked me this Question: I want you to harmonize your three gods belief to the plain statement of the bible “Thou shalt have no other gods before ME.” Mark my point, Not before US. Answer: Let us quote the text: I am the LORD (Jehovah) thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 1. First of all, the God who said I am the LORD thy God... Thou shalt have no other gods before me is one person and one being, meaning this God is a singular God as indicated by applying singular pronoun to himself like I and Me. He is not a triune God, nor a dual God, but a singular God. 2. Evidence from the Bible and the Spirit of prophecy tells us that this singular God who call himself LORD (Jehovah) was Jesus prior to taking humanity upon Himself. 3. When Jesus said in a loud voice to the hearing of the vast multitudes of Israelites, saying Thou shalt have no other gods before me he was referring to the false gods worshipped by men that are not really God. 4. Jesus did not mean to say that His people shall not serve God the Father, the first person of the Godhead who is a separate divine being and a distinct God from Himself. 5. Neither did Jesus mean to say that His people are not to serve the Holy Spirit. the third person of the Godhead who is a separate divine being from the Himself and the Father. 6. Jesus is specifically forbidding his people to serve and worship other gods who are not members of the eternal Godhead. Conclusion: The first commandment does not forbid the recognition and giving of homage to the three persons of the Godhead. If one serves the Father and the Holy Spirit beside serving Jesus who spoke the ten commandments on Mount Sinai, he is not violating the first commandment.
