An appeal from Tom Bolton - Mk Stop The War. I have added my name to the steering group - but they need other volunteers - anyone? For more than ten years Milton Keynes Stop the War Group (MKSTW) has actively campaigned for peace. We have taken part in national demonstrations and organized local action. Our stalls have raised awareness about issues such as the invasion and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan. We opposed the military intervention in Libya and the proposed intervention in Syria. We have also helped to draw attention to the plight of Palestinians. We have campaigned for civil rights and against the criminalization of communities. At present, members are few and most of us have seen changes in our personal circumstances. New commitments, some personal, some political have meant that we have recently not been so active. Unless new people join the steering group then MKSTW will formally disband. Of course as individuals we will demonstrate in support of peace whenever we can but there will not be a formal group, meeting together to plan and organize, and there will not be a group affiliated to the National Stop the War Coalition. If a formal group is to continue then volunteers are needed to attend meetings and to plan and organize events. In particular a volunteer is needed to act as convener/organizer for the group and to communicate with our contacts and also, as required, with the local media. If we do not continue as a formal group we will try to keep in touch as individuals and will support where possible any activity that promotes the aims and values we have stood for. (eg the activities of the MK Palestine Solidarity Campaign and MK Peace and Justice Network.) Please let me know if you would like to: (a) act as convener/organizer for the group, (b) be kept on a mailing list to learn of events such as the ones mentioned below.
