An appeal to the honourable members of the Governing Body of the CHRIST CHURCH GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL, Dum Dum, Kolkata. Date:16.09.2013. Respected Sirs/Madams, I do appreciate your decision to provide all kinds of legal support to the Headmistress, Smt. Helen Sircar, who were forced to put in her resignation letter following the unfortunate demise of Oindrial Das, a student of Class-V. Smt. Sircar had to buckle under the pressure of a section of unruly mob whose depraved act of vandalism and hooliganism was a stigma on Indian Democracy and an anathema to humanity and human rights as well. She did not submit resignation paper on her own volition. With some apparently helpless police officers acting like the Spokes-persons of the irate mob, it was as if Smt. Sircar had the whole responsibility to pacify the people running amok. The charges brought against Smt. Sircar have not yet been proved. The matter is subjudice and the law will take its own course. But, as the matter stands at present, if the resignation of Smt. Sircar tendered under duress is accepted, would it not be an indirect justification of a verdict proclaimed by a ‘Kangaroo Court’?? So, I earnestly request the hon’ble members of the Governing Body not to accept the forced-resignation of Smt. Sircar for the sake of democracy and rationality. The allegations against the Headmistress regarding her misbehaviour or dereliction of duty are different issue and may be taken up later by the School Authority for taking necessary action after giving her a due opportunity to be heard. Thanking in anticipation, Pitam Dey (Guardian of a student) Belgachia, Kolkata – 700 037. Mob. No.9143015532
