An argument for a split _________________________ For the longest time I have stood still For you and the kids. For the longest I took it I persevered, I placed you above my needs. I straight-jacketed me Into the realities of the family. The instabilities, the roller coasters of life Taking toll on our psyche. I have hung on You took too many liberties with me. You called into question my integrity As your world crumbled around you As boredom has killed joy And regimentation, suspicion Has killed serendipity My world has come crashing down. I don’t see, I no longer see this set-up as my own. I have lost my serenity. I have made a decision Instead of being miserable together And always fly under your wings I am going try and do my own thing. The kids are resilient; I feel they will Adapt to the new life. It may be better for them To be at homes with no strife. True, they will miss their old house Our apt will be very small, anything bigger I can’t pay We will have not much room They will cry at first; You may have to take Kitty And if you don’t want her, she may have to go stray. I have called in the Lawyers One of them will call very soon. Your life of doing things on your own May take off; your love-life may get a boon. Frequent feuding is the bane For life together as a family With the abuse and shoving And name calling How we can be together; I don’t see This has to stop. No inlaws related fights No shouting matches In the middle of the night. Finally might give the kids some sleep Hopefully better grades at school We can lay down some rules For the kids and their peeps If someone is not frequently Like a monster, and a creep. I loved you for all these years Did your bidding through the tears. Living in a cage is no place for a few birds Sometimes, at least once They must take a chance to fly. See if there is life beyond the cries The heartbreaks The arguments and the lies. Time has come to say good bye. I have to save the kids from the chaos, The constant melees’ and turmoil. At least I must give it a try.
