An armed robbery and subsequent fatal shooting occurred this evening at a non-client residence in 4th Avenue, Fairland After hearing the doorbell ring, an off-duty Police Officer, staying over at the non-client unit within a complex in 4th Avenue, decided to check the main entrance to the complex through a nearby window. He noticed two men at the main gate -one attempting to derail it using brute force and the other ringing unsuspecting units doorbells. After fetching his firearm, the Policeman decided exit his unit and circle around to the garage for a better look. On his way there however, he noticed a third suspect (armed with a pistol) already within the complex perimeter and heading back toward his unit. Cautiously approaching the third suspects last known location and back into his own home, the Policeman and the suspect unexpectedly crossed paths again -this time at the front entrance on a more personal level. A scuffle broke out between the men, whereby the suspect managed to hit the Officer on the side of his head with the back of his firearm, injuring him. It was at this point that the Police Officer produced his firearm and shot the suspect, wounding him fatally. His accomplices fleeing the scene immediately. Our Control Room received a panic signal from a Beagle unit moments later. Task Force Officers were despatched together with the Fairland SAPS and trauma support. LOOK OUT: for a silver VW Polo occupied by two black male suspects (reg. unknown), considered armed and dangerous #StayVigilant #StaySafe!
