An astonishing and moving story about Yar Ayuel, a Sudanese refugee. As small children, Yar and her younger brother escaped a brutal civil war through the desert of South Sudan, landing in a refugee camp in Kenya, where Sasha Chanoff, an Echoing Green Fellow and founder of RefugePoint, was working at the time. Sasha founded RefugePoint to focus on and bring light to the most vulnerable refugee groups, such as women and separated children. Fourteen years later, after being adopted with her brother by a family in Massachusetts, graduating from college and starting a family of her own, Sasha organized for Yar to attend The White House Correspondents Dinner on May 3, before which she was able to meet Barack Obama and Michelle Obama.
