President Truong Tan Sang asked the business circle to uphold their role as a pillar of Viet Nam’s economy in a meeting with over 100 local entrepreneurs in Ha Noi on Saturday. – VNA/VNS Photo The Anh HA NOI (VNS) – President Truong Tan Sang met with more than 100 outstanding Vietnamese entrepreneurs in Ha Noi on Saturday, asking the business circle to uphold their role as a pillar of Viet Nam’s industrialisation and modernisation, helping boost the national economy. He said Viet Nam would be fully integrated with the global economy in the next five years, which would bring about even greater competition. Vietnamese businesses needed to gear up to vie with rivals from major economies, he added. Responding to business proposals related to administrative procedures, tax incentives,loan access and the investment environment, the State leader ordered ministries and localities to increase support and create the best possible conditions for enterprises’ recovery and development. He also suggested they make good use of the media to submit their opinions to the Party and State leaders. At the meeting, which took place on the occasion of the 10th Vietnam Entrepreneurs’ Day (October 13), Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vu Tien Loc reported that during the first nine months of 2014, 53,000 businesses were set up and 11,872 firms resumed operations, while 48,330 dissolved or suspended operations. The rate of those recording profits rose from 29.7 percent to 32.9 percent despite fierce competition, he said. Fatherland Front tightens inspection on economic policies On the same day, President of the Vietnamese Fatherland Front (VFF) Nguyen Thien Nhan said he hoped that economic organisations and scientists would contribute their opinions on building and monitoring the implementation of economic policies. The VFF would tighten inspection and propose solutions to improve economic policies. He was speaking at a seminar on promoting the role of associations in building and monitoring the implementation of economic policies. Nhan said the VFF was co-operating with ministries, sectors, member political and social organisations to monitor the implementation of health insurance payments and the supply of medical services at private pharmacies. In the future, the VFF would also monitor complaints and denouncements of citizens and the implementation of the Law on Science and Technology, which had attracted public concern, he said. Chairman of the Association of Small and Medium Enterprise Cao Sy Kiem said the VFF’s role was to consider the suitability and effectiveness of policies and the compliance of those involved. Based on this, the VFF would propose changes if needed. Entrepreneurs praised A list of 100 outstanding entrepreneurs in HCM City was announced at a ceremony on Saturday as part of the activities to celebrate the Vietnam Entrepreneurs’ Day. The municipal People’s Committee also plans to award certificates of merit to 10 individuals who have won the title for consecutive years. According to Vice Chairman of the Committee Tat Thanh Cang, thanks to their active contributions, the city’s economic growth reached 9.6 percent in the 2011-2013 period and 8.9 percent in the first nine months of 2014. In 2013 and the first six months of this year, the 100 outstanding businesspeople created a revenue of VND465 trillion (US$22.1 billion), accounting for 26.53 percent of the city’s total. They also contributed more than VND28 trillion to the local budget. With Viet Nam in the the middle of intensive and extensive international economic integration, entrepreneurs should make more efforts to improve their management capacity and apply measures to bring their products and trademarks to the world, Cang said. Japanese support President Truong Tan Sang yesterday praised Japanese investors for their involvement in the development of Viet Nam’s support industry as he met Japanese and domestic investors at the Long Duc Industrial Park in Dong Nai Province. He said that concerned ministries and other agencies are drafting proposals for more preferential treatment to be given to the industry. These would be submitted to the National Assembly soon for approval, he added. He urged greater efforts to ensure that the park’s space is used fully. The investors requested that the State clears bottlenecks in the implementation of preferential policies for enterprises in the support industry. Also yesterday, President Sang attended a memorial service dedicated to 36 soldiers who were killed in Long Khanh Town in the southern province during the American War. – VNS
