An early 1960s picture looking south-west from the top of Richmond Hill when it was a busy gateway to the town centre. Obvious points include the absence of even the first Portman building on the hill and the more distant construction crane attending to construction of the first Westcliff tower block. All of the properties on the right have now gone, some more recently than others. The registration of the trolleybus, no doubt effortlessly ascending the hill on its way to Charminster and Castle Lane Broadway, gives it away as being one that started life along the coast with Brighton Corporation in 1948. Seven of these redundant vehicles were snapped up by Bournemouth Corporation during 1959 and were fondly called Brighton Belles by our local bus crews.
