An early start I remember many years ago My girls were six and three It was hard to get them both to sleep As it was Christmas Eve. We set mince pies out for Santa With a glass of milk as well, A carrot for the reindeer, It was going well I could tell. They were asleep by nine o clock Not bad two hours late, I fell into bed at ten fifteen, Presents out its going great. I fell asleep, well instantly Getting ready for the big day I woke up early the Next morning. To hear two excited voices say. Santas been, mummy, daddy Hes eaten his mince pie Hes drunk his milk The carrots gone. Then I swung my legs out of the bed Eyelids heavy, still quite tired My wife began to move as well Five more minutes? she enquired Hes been, hes been they chorused What I saw next was hard to believe I saw the clock across the room Eleven thirty Christmas Eve
