An edible bank, walking on water, an i-doc to promote green living, an interactive game based on shadow puppetry, a bio fuelled trike and bothy, a bamboo bicycle workshops, soda fired large scale ceramics, online tapestry tutorials & pop up books are just some of the 25 new innovative Creative Labs concepts being developed for Harnessing Creativity Project’s “Expanded Territories” Showcase next year. The more open and confident attitude to collaboration across disciplines was a key feature underpinning the original idea of Harnessing Creativity being the need to make bridges from the creative sector into the wider economy that were lacking. Our Labs participants recognised benefits in thinking in a business like way about an idea; Participants found that the Labs gave them “the encouragement to find and see ways to get an income stream from creative ideas has been invaluable” When asked about the Long term benefits participants said? “Yes, definitely. Im already planning new projects with one other practitioner and we made a joint pitch for a piece of work”. “Yes definitely I feel privileged that I have been firstly chosen but also that through the funding I have been able to get work (paid) to improve my idea through graphics / story and making up of prototypes” “Yes. It has reinforced and straightened my confidence in myself and my Art / Business Practice”. The HC Labs have been successful in two important ways: a) Generating some interesting ideas with potential to generate income b) Encouraging a more open and confident attitude to collaboration
