An email over the weekend from the GREAT Rufus Reid wrote, I just wanted to tell you how much I am enjoying SONGS IN KEY OF Q. BRAVO! The programming and the compositions are wonderful. The band {Dayna Stephens, Warren Wolf, Xavier Davis, Vicente Archer, Richie Goods} Throw Down for you, as well. But, how could they NOT! :-) Been frustrated lately that my album Songs In the Key of Q hasnt gotten much press despite being of, according to many who have listened to it, very high quality with regard to the playing, compositions and overall freshness of the album. It definitely holds its own compared to many of the hot new albums out now. But not having the backing of a label definitely makes it bit tricky to get the music out there and create a buzz. Wont make that mistake again:) Regardless, its great to know that my music is indeed reaching and touching some of my peers and mentors who I hold in such high regard. Emails like the one above keep me encouraged and thinking positively. This is my humble way of trying to promote my album so you too can hear a fresh perspective on jazz that strongly represents the present yet is deeply rooted in tradition. Id like to share my music with as many people as possible because I believe there is something in it for anyone who just plain likes high quality, well thought out (yet not overly cerebral) music.
