An endorsement by Mike Keniley, Chairman of the Plainfield Democrats was noted on a mailer which, Mike Keniley DID NOT offer an endorsement. This mailer in question was a JOINT mailer sent by the campaigns Duffy Blackburn for State Central Committeeman in the 11th District & Julia Beckman for State Central Committeewoman in the 11th District…which is indicated on the mailer: “Paid for by Friends of Duffy Blackburn & Citizens for Beckman”. The following letter via email was sent to me by Julia Kennedy Beckman...also, per discussion with key Precinct Committeepersons, I have requested a retraction to be placed in the Sunday Joliet Herald News (by the JOINT Campaign)...permission was granted by Julia Kennedy Beckman to post this note. From: [email protected] To: Mike Keniley Sent: Wednesday, March 12, 2014 9:29:41 AM Hello Mike - As we discussed this morning on the phone, I want to apologize for putting you in a difficult position regarding the endorsement on the joint mailing for Duffy Blackburn and me. Please understand that Duffy had nothing to do with this error. Here are the facts: As often happens in campaigns, late in the race Sheila Simon endorsed both Duffy and me. Since Duffy and I have been friends and share the same Democratic values, I had the idea of doing a joint mailing, with Sheilas permission, to save money for both campaigns. Duffy called people for endorsements as did I. Since we did not have time to get written endorsements, we both called supporters. Because we also knew it might be difficult for people to endorse both of us, we tried to explain the situation to each one. Some turned us down for that reason. I thought I had called you with the same request, but in my hurry, failed to connect. Lesson learned - always confirm! I would never intentionally do anything to embarrass such a good friend and tireless worker for the Democratic Party. I know you are a person of integrity and would not do anything to undermine your committeemen or the Plainfield Democratic Organization. Please accept my apology.
