An established event for over 60 years Chainsaw artist are being recruited to participate in providing entertainment and interest in the art of carving with a chainsaw to the Great Delaware River Lumberjack and Hancock Firemans Field Days. Chainsaw Carving Completion Official Entry 1st Prize $150 2nd Prize $100 3rd Prize $50 • Fresh cut pine (approx size 28” x 7) will be available for a competition carving. • Each carver is asked to participate in three 45-min quick carve on Thursday & Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 2pm. • Competition Piece are to completion with all available tools and finishes • Quick Carvers will be Chainsaw Only Pieces. • Quick Carves will be auctioned directly after each exhibition and will fund the Prize Money for Quick Carve High Sales(top three high sales) and event organization. Arrival Time – any time Wednesday evening through Thursday morning. Competition pieces are to be started Friday Morning Carving times are as follows. Judging: 3pm Saturday Announcement of Winner Saturday Evening at ________________ Quick Carve: Thursday at 7pm; Friday at 7pm and Sunday at 2pm will each be a 45 minute – this piece will be chainsaw only and to be Auctioned off directly after quick carve. Proceeds will go to event organization and additional prize money for highest sales of all three pieces combined. FOOD: A food voucher will be provided each day from the Festival Organization (HOW MANY? WHAT TYPE?) Rustic Camping is available onsite. The event is at a festival grounds and carvers will have access to showers and restroom facilities. as well as porta potties. (Electric available?) When can you arrive? Anytime Wednesday – How do we Pick Logs – Lottery for log pick will be at 5pm Wednesday to select your log – trades are allowed. Is there additional wood available to carve? Unsure at this time (maybe) There may be a portable sawmill on site Time Line Wednesday, July 23th Setup Carving site, Lottery for Competition Log, debark, draw and one cut. Any other carving you would like to do. Thursday, July 24th - 9:00 – 12:00 Competition Carve 12:00-2:00 Lunch – other carvings 2:00-5:00 Competition Carving 5:00 – 7:00 Dinner & other carvings 7:00 – 45 minute Quick Carve Auction to follow Friday, July 25th - 9:00 – 12:00 Competition Carve 12:00-2:00 Lunch – other carvings 2:00-5:00 Competition Carving 5:00 – 7:00 Dinner & other carvings 7:00 – 45 minute Quick Carve Auction to follow Saturday, July 26th – 9:00 – 12:00 Completion of Competition Piece 12:00 – 2:00 Lunch – other Carvings 2:00 – 45 minute Quick Carve – Auction to follow – Masterpiece to auction if so desired with 100% going to carver (set reserves allowed) Remainder of event – other Carvings and customer sales at carving site. The Great Delaware River Lumberjack and Hancock Firemans Field Days July 24 – 26, 2014 Rules and Regulations All individuals are required to follow these safety rules while operating a chain saw within the designated Carving areas. All hand guards and chain breaks must be in place and working! All handles must be securely in place. Bar-tip handles are strictly forbidden. Mufflers must be in place & working at least 80% of factory specs. Rear handle throw starting is forbidden. Carvers must wear boots, eye protection, ear protection and chain saw resistant chaps or pants. No customer may be in safety zone during timed carving periods. Carvers must have netting between you and the public in your designated carving space. Carvers must provide scaffolding. Stilts cannot be used. Chainsaw refueling to be undertaken away from the carving area Competition Carving rules This event has an open theme. Competition carving to be done with an all tool chainsaw only; additions to the carving must be from the original log. Judging will take place 3:00 pm Saturday Winners announced Saturday Evening at ____________________ 3 Quick Carves will be held during the Event 7pm Thursday & Friday – 2pm Saturday Chainsaw only Carving Arena will be provided – for participate entertainment Before Quick Carve, Carvers may debark logs, draw on log and cut one piece from log.
