An estimated 215 million children around the world are involved in child labour. Many of these children work long hours, often in dangerous conditions. Child labour is closely associated with poverty and denies children their right to education. To combat this issue and raise global awareness of this issue, the International Labour Organization (ILO) initiated the World Day Against Child Labor in 2002, observed every year on June 12. This day also brings together governments, employers and workers organizations, civil society, as well as millions of people from around the world to highlight the plight of child labourers and what can be done to help them. The theme for 2014 is “Extend social protection: combat child labour!” bit.ly/1kzrDvt How do you think each of us can combat child labour on an individual level?
