An eventful Christmas Eve 2014 After a fine service at Our Savior in Fenton, Paula and I made our trek to Joey Bs on the hill to sit in their bar and eat some good Dego food. Lo and behold, they just closed the kitchen. Plan B - fine dining at Giovannis. We had spectacular Veal Saltimbocca and a nice Chianti. On a whim, we decided to go to the St. Louis Basilica for an 11pm concert and stuck around for the service of the Word at the Midnight Mass - standing room only. They have probably the best church choir that I have ever heard. One thing about Catholics, they dont belt out the hymns like we Lutherans do. So Paula had a really nice solo of The Angel Gabriel seems she didnt know it as well as she thought, so she kind of made it up along the way - pretty awesome. That chick has some pipes and she is loud! Then Archy the Bishop (or something like that) gave a homily about how Jesus is found in our hearts, that the saints and Mary will help us with our merits if we pray to them and stuff. Of course we live in a divided city so we should strive for peace and unity, because after all, thats the sort of thing that Jesus came to do... yada yada yada, Mary, yada, yada. We bailed out at the beginning of the service of the sacrament. As we hit the front door, there were about 60 cops standing there in riot gear because there were a bunch of white, unwashed college libbies out there holding a banner that says Black Lives Count. This is a sentiment that I agree with, but I also think that cops lives count just as much and it is a bad policy to point guns at them. So, as we walked by about 30 cops, we exchanged Merry Christmases and thanked them for their service. Then I almost made an illegal right turn on a red with a sign that says No right turns on red... in front of about 60 cops in riot gear. Whew Close call. All in all, an awesome night!
