An excerpt from my Book of Counted Blessings... How about running away... like... I would move to Germany to a little farmhouse on a green terraced hill with a few chickens, a rooster, a cow, a pig, and lots of dogs and cats. Id have a fireplace that my servant would start before he left for the night. In the morning the cook would arrive to make Donna and I breakfast in bed in the loft above the fireplace. Donna would paint all day on her walnut tripod with water colors and oils. I would walk the hills with my cats and dogs and stop at the stream to watch the fish swim by. After a big lunch, I would take a nap on the couch by the window with the cool mountain breeze blowing over my face with the flutter of the curtains softly blowing in the wind. The droplets of sunshine would sparkle on the silverware on the supper table and I would smell the pot roast stew that was for supper. I would be thin all the less with all this great food. Before I got up, I would stretch and yawn and then walk outside for a cold sip of ice cold well water before Id take a warm autumn stroll to the stream again for a late afternoon swim before returning for that pot roast. The cook would leave and Donna and I would be all alone with our wine and the beautiful roses Donna picked before I came home. The servant would be gone too for the night since it was a warmer evening and there was no need for a fire tonight. The days would change quickly and the birds would sing in the morning. The moon would glow every night and the sun would shine everyday. Only an occasional springtime shower would moisten the green grasses in front of our German cottage and we would dream of many things while counting the daisies in our garden. We would do this for 3 1/2 years, at which time we would be bored to f^&%en death and fly back home as soon as we could so we could shop at Wal-Mart, drive down the interstate, catch up on email and pray our family hadnt forgotten us. Well, maybe we would only do it for 13 months. And then again, one month sounds about perfect.
