An exciting opportunity to kick off your entry into the ANUs Graduate Certificate Program or attend as an elective student. CHINA ELECTIVE / CHINA: SURFACE DECORATING TECHIQUES This six unit intensive elective is available to students from any discipline within the Undergraduate and Graduate programs. This elective is offered as an intensive and will take place in Jingdezhen, China at the Pottery Workshop Experimental Factory. The Pottery Workshop is a ceramics design and residential artists studio situated on the site of an old National Porcelain Company, Sculpture Factory. This Experimental Factory is surrounded by hundreds of small and independent craftsmen and artists practicing a range of ceramic skills for example: clay producers, throwers, sculptors, mould makers, blue and white decorators, overglaze decorators, glaze and colour shops, kiln firing workshops and brush makers. Objects made at the factory range from fingernail size to twelve feet high, all in porcelain. The elective will be co-ordinated by an ANU Ceramics Workshop staff member with delivery by highly skilled artisans and a studio based project. In addition to visiting museums, cultural sites and shard markets, the program will be studio based including porcelain carving, blue and white painting, tissue paper transfer and glaze painting. A cost of $1100 for accommodation, meals, travel in China, materials (pots to decorate, under glaze painting pigments, tissue transfers, enamels, brushes), entry to museums and guided tours.
