An excuse many American slave owners used to explain Americas - TopicsExpress

An excuse many American slave owners used to explain Americas peculiar institution in years past was that by bringing African slaves to America, they would learn about God and Jesus and therefore be saved from eternity in hell. Like many people in most circumstances, many slave owners (the wealthy) tried to find Biblical justification in their use of human bondage. So, where am I going with all this? Im glad you asked! Lets say those wealthy slave owners were right. Souls were being saved from slavery so it was justifiable and from a Christian standpoint, the right thing to do. So in 1619 when the first African slaves arrived in Jamestown to December 1865 with the passing of the 13th Amendment, the slaves owners (wealthy) claimed they saved souls. So now read 1Timothy 6:10 and then Matthew 19:24. So as Christians wouldnt it be Christian-like to tax and limit (regulate) the wealth of the extreme wealthy? Wouldnt we be saving souls? Isnt that the same logic the wealthy used the first 3 centuries of Americas existence? Shouldnt we demand the wealthiest family in the world pay a living wage to their employees? Shouldnt they provide health care too? By taking some of the wealth from the Walton family not be logical as Christians? Of course this isnt logical. The point Im trying to make is no matter when in history, what the circumstances are, the wealthy always looks out for their wealth. Theyll twist logic to the point where it will almost make sense. Were creating jobs. Dont tax us, are common statements today. But through every depression, through every recession, they still manage to hold on to their wealth while the rest of America suffers. We know where their heart lies. How many billions and billions do the Koch brothers really need to live on? Just something to think about when you go vote next month.
