An idea for saving social enterprises. coleman has power & intent to kill them. AS THEY ARE NOW. So have them folded back inside the PHS umbrella totally & under new phs mgmt & better financial oversight, because i think on their own given recent media articles about them who owns them & other things etc theyll likely be toast. And maybe make the case that the PHS is a one stop shop from street to work. Focus on the integrated part. Focus on the economic cost part and why social housing & social enterprise saves money in long run. PHS is opaque to outsiders. There is basically nothing on their website but Im guessing their business model is something like this. IF it is, formalize it, and communicate it. PHS: We provide 3 steps from the unstable street to stable work. 1. Insite to support drug addicts and get their lives more stabilized. 2. Supportive housing to support them other hard to house and get them stabilized housing wise 3. Supportive social enterprises to get them work experience in a safe & supportive way so they can get off welfare, be more independent, have a better quality of life & and being a taxpayer contributing to the tax base. Right wing always claims the best way off welfare is a job, well this process is the best way to get that specific group a job. PHS from unstable welfare to stable work. And provide evidence that it actual does so not just anecdotes. add anecdotes as spice not main course. Link it all together and frame it as a complete solution that saves taxpayers money and gets people off welfare to work. Youre not trying to convince the left here, but the center & the right & media and govt. Focus on the economic argument to sell it to media & public & get the funds to do the social and economic piece. Finally, use evidence vs just anecdote to explain why this is doable & why taxpayers & govt should continue it under PHS & better financial & management oversight. Use something like what BCs Dr. Margaret Weiss did to make the economic argument for BC & other govts to take ADHD more seriously. Many buy into the left wing and right wing stigma about ADHD. Few care about us ADDErs as humans but they do care about taxes and its very, very expensive to ignore us. i.e. higher rates of addiction, crime, eating disorders, divorce, school problems & dropouts, un and unemployment, depression, emergency room visits etc. See her slides on my BC ADHD blog here, 2nd article to possible use as a model, she lays out economic cost and makes a persuasive argument why govt should stop ignoring us & start treating us.
