An idle thought on being back in the West and jet-lagged at the same time: How odd: when I turn on the cold water tap, I get cold water! Normal, right? Wrong! Apartment blocks and villas in the Arabian Gulf all have flat roofs which have tanks which feed the building water supply. Because of the intense heat, the water heats up hotter than it is in a normal water heater, so when the heat comes, you shut off the water heaters because "cold" becomes hot, and the unheated water in the water heaters has had time to cool off, so the water from the hot water tap is (almost) cold.
