An important Medicare change starts July 1 for people who get diabetes supplies delivered to their home through Medicare coverage. Medicare has negotiated to bring the price for the supplies down significantly by developing a national contract with certain suppliers, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced. Supplies will be cheaper no matter where or how you get them, but if you want them delivered to your home, you need to work with one of 20 national contractors. You can sign up at medicare.gov/supplier or 1-800-MEDICARE (800-633-4227). TTY users should call 1-877-486-2048. If you have questions, you can contact Alaska’s Medicare Information Office at 269-3680 in Anchorage, 800-478-6065 toll-free statewide (TTY is 800-770-8973), or email [email protected]. Here’s a New York Times piece on the change: newoldage.blogs.nytimes/2013/06/13/medicare-to-pay-less-for-diabetes-care-supplies/?ref=health
