An important note on the New York Times coverage of the fight - TopicsExpress

An important note on the New York Times coverage of the fight against Keystone XL, from Winona LaDuke Honor the Earth: Its disappointing when the significant role that the Indigenous Environmental Network and the Indigenous Tar Sands Campaign played were not mentioned even once -- although leaders of those campaigns were reps of the only group to actually meet with Obama on the issue. Environmental justice is about taking leadership from those most impacted -- and in acknowledging the foundational, significant, and sustaining work Indigenous peoples have done to stop this pipeline and bring awareness to the devastation of the tar sands. It is about challenging narratives that would seek to diminish the importance of our work in representing our own peoples and silencing narratives that are not mainstream or well-funded. We need our allies to challenge this kind of storytelling. To diminish the Indigenous voice and misrepresent a movement is doing us all a dis service. Let us not be idle. nytimes/2014/01/25/us/keystone-xl-pipeline-fight-lifts-environmental-movement.html
