An important spokesman, who was instrumental in shaping conservative views was the talk show host William F Buckley. His television program consisted of essentially discrediting any opposition, a strategy that has since been adopted by politicians and political analysts on the right. The strategy is simply to create scapegoats to blame all the ills of America and to belittle and degrade those that represent this alleged and many times fabricated threat. The purpose is to provide a ready answer and make it unsafe and even UN-American to embrace any other opinion or point of view in an effort to stifle independent thought. This method has been utilized to provoke and incite the American people. The product of these debates is to create a sort of political narcissism that has brought us wars, racism and class-ism. Huey P Newton sprang to national prominence as co-founder of the Black Panthers. During an interview with Newton, William F Buckley was asked if he were living during the American Revolution would he be a Tory (on the side of England) or a Patriot? Buckley, like many Americans could not honestly answer this question.
