An independent candidate from Bandipora constituency, Ghulam Ahmed Bhat, passed away in the wee hours today following a brief illness. Pertinently, the results of the assembly elections and Bhat’s fate would be declared just five days from now. He was 63 and is survived by wife, son and a daughter. Bhat developed chest pain on Wednesday afternoon and was shifted to a hospital, his family members said. With Sun as symbol, Bhat was among the eight independent candidates who were contesting the polls from Bandipora constituency. 13 candidates are in the fray. PDP leader and MLA Bandipora Nizamudin Bhat, Former Minster and congress candidate Usman Masjid while condoling the death have expressed grief and sympathy with the family of the deceased.
