An informal meeting was held yesterday with Mayor Neil Rankine and Council CEO Mr Paul Buckley. Whilst again no specific commitments, they have under consideration a Cemetery Trust meeting this month, including consideration of a master plan, and scrutiny of finances and options to address drainage issues and provide equal access for all people to and from grave sites. I was encouraged by Mr Buckleys commercial approach, genuine listening and kind consideration, without any promises at this stage, given he has been in the position for 4 or so weeks only. Time will tell as to whether Council, Councillors and Council Officers including Executive Management take a leadership position in responding to community voices and resolve important and sensitive Cemetery infrastructure needs.
