An inmate spoke of the discouragement and turning back from God, - TopicsExpress

An inmate spoke of the discouragement and turning back from God, because each time he tries to honor God its too hard due to trials that come at him. A question I asked him is: what sport do you participate in...weight training, football....? He responded, that he likes to play baseball. So do you stop training, when your muscles ache causing you pain, or you get a small injury? "No, I keep playing", he responded. We could see the light starting to dawn in him by the tone of his response and the look on his face. He got it. The follow-up was to encourage him, that Satan was afraid of loosing the soul that seeks God; therefore, at the first sign of really looking toward God, Satan tempts him. He hopes, that like Peter the seeker will see the waves not as temptations they are, but as danger that says turn back -- that way is a killer go back! In this way Satan distracts our eyes from God. In that way we sink. So cry out to Jesus with Peter: "Lord save me!" Then praise God, because Satan flees when we persist in doing the very thing he hates so much. Rev 4:8 provides us with a beautiful brief exclamation of the Seraphim. Even if we can only cry out the start of it. "Holy, holy, holy Lord..." Satan will soon see that his plot failed and he will look ahead to set up a different ambush. Keep a short prayer of adoration ever handy to counter every ambush attempt at giving us a stumble to deny our Faith in Him who saves when we cry out, "Lord save me!"
