An inspired message from our friend Katherine Williams about an American Hero: My 88-year old grandfather, Berry Kennedy (who is currently battling colon, bladder, and prostate cancer), served our country during WWII. Somewhere along the line, someone mistakenly told him that he couldnt receive his medals because his military records were destroyed in a fire. This past week, with the help of the Laurens County VA in South Carolina, my parents and I were able to surprise my grandfather with the medals hes been waiting for for nearly 70 years! My papa truly has a NVRQT attitude. He lost his wife to uterine cancer in 1967, leaving him to raise my mom and her three siblings by himself. Almost four years ago, doctors found a mass in his colon, and polyps in his bladder. He underwent surgery to remove over one foot of his colon and more that twenty polyps from his bladder. I am inspired daily by his NVRQT attitude, and I am proud to call him my papa!
