John and Jean also talk about their willingness to give back to HARC: “It’s very lonely when you find yourself with a disabled child. Organizations like HARC fill that need. Especially with the landscape changing and cuts [to programs] at the state level. We all look to the future. You have to be willing to take a look at the next step. You can’t let it slide because there may not be another opportunity. We have to engage HARC as they do for us. If we don’t give back, we shouldn’t expect anything from them”
