An interesting discovery last night: Only 1 in 7 ulluco seeds has anything resembling a well-developed embryo inside. Ive been opening them up to put the embryos in culture and the first 12 that I picked were all empty. I was getting very discouraged, but lucky number 13 had what appears to be a fully developed embryo and the odds improved a little thereafter. I now have 11 cultures started. This helps to explain why seed starting results have been so poor. This also means that it should be possible to screen them by weighing, although my milligram scale isnt accurate enough for the job.
