An interesting new study, published in PLoS One this month, has found that children with autism have significantly fewer types of intestinal bacteria than children who aren’t affected by the spectrum disorder. In particular, the researchers found significantly lower amounts of three critical bacteria involved in carbohydrate degradation and fermentation – Prevotella, Coprococcus and Veillonellaceae.
