An interesting phenomena happened when CBS news decided to pick up a local story for #onedaydirtier. Amusingly enough, the broadcasters decided to satire the what began as an awareness campaign into a public farce. Apparently, the supporters believe that one shower will save 30,000 gallons of water.... O_o. Apart from the degrading behavior of the news broadcasters, I would like to point out the interesting transitions a local story took from a local paper, to a county paper, to a large public news station. The story began as a human interest piece to spread some awareness in a, albeit silly, but creatively fun way (true to the ojai spirit). It was then picked up by the vcstar to create some more buzz around a local individual (** ahem ** by best friend, cody creighton). At this point the article, while still focusing on water conservation started to steer more toward the concept of a dirty public individual and may I say, god forbid! Next step, CBS news and **viola** we have a story based on the shocking man who doesnt take showers. Is he homeless? No, because that would probably be more acceptable and less of a sensationalist story. According to CBS news and the broadcasters it is more appropriate to sensationalize petty opinions about cleanliness. Which, as a stretch, I will draw everyones attention to the adament prejudices in our society about showering! But, really, on a serious note. The inability of a prominent news station to parallel a human interest story toward California water conservation, its original purpose, is in itself a much more controversial subject than a man who has decided not to shower. Some of our best philosophers and great thinkers eschewed showering and the concept of having to shower, in the scheme of our world history, is relatively new. So, with a conservative bow of the head I will hold Cody Creighton, The Man Whom Does Not Shower otherwise known as the California Man Stud, is high esteem. Cheers CBS
