An interesting the rest of the story on Net Neutrality from our Hollywood correspondent: Marc Ferrara. This is an area he is well versed in andI am not - but it concerns us all About killing net neutrality. Killing net neutrality is something of interest specifically to internet providers (your cable company, AT&T, etc.) Killing it allows them to control the speed of all the websites you reach through them. If one company, say Amazon, wants them to provide you internet at speeds that arent crippling, then Amazon will have to pay your provider (just like youre paying your provider). Amazon WILL NOT pass these savings on to you -- effectively, youre paying twice. Killing net neutrality would affect the variety of sites to which you have access. Internet providers could concentrate specifically on their own content and sweep their competitors under the rug. It can also hinder innovative startups like Amazon or eBay. The providers can concentrate on their own similar services. Right now, you pay for internet access. Without net neutrality, you can also be charged for internet activities. Start up companies will find it harder in a world where they have slow speeds and cant pay for higher rates. Perhaps our government will step up with aid/laws to assist start-ups? If so, we will pay taxes on this or pay for agents/bureaucrats to enforce it. Were DEFINITELY talking about MORE government in internet. Internet providers will say that net neutrality discourages them from building internet infrastructure. I would assume our monthly fees are enough for them, but if its not, maybe they should get out of the business. Is anyone out there finding their monthly internet fees too low? Its politics. Internet providers were made aware of Bushbamas position, so they funded and spoke with several senators who were only too happy to come out against something Bushbama brought up. The infrastructure is being erected for internet fast lanes, which is a precursor for killing net neutrality. The new bill would make sure that free access is given to these new faster lanes (which were erected to circumvent net neutrality). Tell me where Im wrong in all this. Thanks!
