An introductory to foam rolling So what is a Foam Roller? How do you use it? And why does it hurt so much? Foam Rolling is also known as Self-myofascial release. It is a soft tissue treatment for skeletal muscle immobility or pain. This therapy was once used only by therapist on professional athletes to decrease the chances for injury and to help recover faster. However, because of its effectiveness it has become familiar to people at all levels of fitness. Myo-fascial release can be used with a foam roller, lacrosse ball, tennis ball, Theracane, or your own hands. By applying pressure to specific points on your body you are able to aid in the recovery of muscles and assist in returning them to normal function. Normal function means your muscles are elastic, healthy, and ready to perform at a moment’s notice. So, how do you know if you need to use this technique? Well, it is good for everyone but specifically it can benefit those who suffer from muscle tightness or pain that may be holding that person back from reaching their fitness goals. So, if you feel like this might benefit you or you are just curious to see what it is then come try the foam rolling intro class. There will be 2-30 minute classes every Monday at 6:30pm and 7pm, limited to the first 10 that sign up. The sign up sheet is out of the aerobic room.
