An oddity here. This is one of two French SNCASE SE-2010 Armagnac transports, photographed at Essendon Airport Melbourne, Australia that flew the French Olympic team in. Power was 4 x Pratt and Whitney R4360 Wasp Majors. Despite these powerful engines, the aircraft was still underpowered. You can see how it dwarfs the DC3 behind it. As both behmoths were staying in Australia during the duration of the games, they were flown to Mangalore Airport (about 50 miles to the north) for storage. While F-BAVI (pictured) was flying there, local ATC asked other passenger aircraft in the area to report any sightings of it. A reply came back from the crew of another DC3 .... If thats the Block of Flats underneath us, were just passing it now......! (A Block of Flats is what US Residents will know as an Apartment Building.) Photos: Airways Museum.
