An off duty Chattooga County Sheriffs Deputy was arrested last night, according to Sheriff Mark Schrader. Im still getting information but what I can tell you is that Donald Starkey was arrested last night after a one vehicle accident on Hwy 157 in Cloudland. My office called the Georgia State Patrol to investigate the crash. As of now he is charged with failure to maintain a single lane, failure to notify owner upon striking a fixed object and DUI. Donalds employment with the Sheriffs Office has been terminated. He was a very good deputy and shift supervisor. He was very dependable and a hard worker. I am surprised and disappointed by his actions. I am also very grateful that no one was injured in the crash and that no other vehicles were involved, the sheriff added.
