An offer to all students: LIFE WITHOUT HORSES Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse – Special Offer to Glyndŵr Students “Life without horses,” said Jeannie Chantler the General Manager of the popular Bangor-on-Dee racececourse. “I don’t think so,” replied Dr Jan Green, Senior Lecturer in Business and Management at Glyndŵr University. So went the discussion between the two horse enthusiasts following the successful initiative to stage a National Student Raceday in late October when a valid student card offered racecourse access to the holder pictured on the card for a bargain price of £10. This initiative was planned by the LOVETHERACES through Great British Racing, to attract a younger profile to appreciate the delights of attending a horse racing fixture – well known to both Jeannie and Jan. Bangor-on-Dee have gone one better and are offering all Glyndŵr University students the same offer of £10 admission, with a valid student card, for all remaining fixtures in the current season and if it is a successful exercise it will continue throughout 2014. “Racing is a complex sport and draws upon a range of skills, including judgement, selection and evaluation in the process of selecting the winners of each race. These attributes are frequently called upon in the world of business, so attending a race meeting is an ideal way of gaining some valuable practice,” said Jan. “Yes, but it is also an enjoyable and exciting way to spend an afternoon to provide hard-working students with an opportunity to relax and enjoy a change of scenery just minutes outside of Wrexham,” replied Jeannie. The Glyndŵr University student offer commences at the next Bangor-on-Dee racecourse fixture on Wednesday, 13 November. Wednesday afternoon is designated to sport at Glyndŵr so no students need to miss lectures whilst engaged in the appreciation of the Sport of Kings, horseracing!
